A man is dead following a car accident in Clay County today.

Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) reported that the accident took place at 6:52 a.m. on May 4th.  The crash was about one mile east of Clay Center. Vehicle one, a 1998 Chevrolet Silverado, was Eastbound on U-24 at Milepost 28.7. Vehicle two, a 2001 Park Avenue Buick, was Northbound on a driveway just North of U-24.

For an unknown reason, vehicle one crossed the Westbound Lane, entering the North ditch, and struck vehicle two.

Following the crash, the driver of vehicle one, Jacob Zelinski of Beloit, fled on foot. After a short period of time, Zelinski was located and arrested by law enforcement.

According to KHP, the driver of the Buick, identified as Dale Hammond of Clay Center, was killed in the accident.
